Aug. 8, 2022

QUEEN’S PARK – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady took her seat in the Ontario Legislature today. The first order of business was to elect a Speaker.

On first ballot, MPP for Wellington-Halton Hills Ted Arnott was elected Speaker. Arnott was the speaker prior to the House rising.

“I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to Ted Arnott on becoming the speaker of the Ontario Legislature yet again,” Brady said. “I have known MPP Arnott many years. He is always kind, fair and a true gentleman — the House is in good hands.”

The Speaker essentially has three roles i) administrator  ii) the Speaker ceremonially represents all MPPs and iii) is in charge of order and decorum in the Chamber. The Speaker’s word is always final.
