QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Bobbi Ann Brady last week made a plea for Ontario’s most vulnerable citizens in her statement to the Ontario Legislature and urged the government not to turn its back on providing adequate funding for the agencies that help them in Haldimand-Norfolk and across Ontario.

“I was at a Christmas party with families surrounded by loved ones with developmental disabilities. These beautiful, gracious families devote themselves to ensuring their loved ones are looked after,” Brady said.

“However, they are tired from trying to get this government’s attention. They have repeatedly called on this government to address the wait list of 52,000 adults waiting to access services. The list has gotten longer and longer and has grown 105% in five years.”

Brady related to the Chamber how agencies in Haldimand-Norfolk are suffering from the chronic underfunding, leaving them struggling to provide the critical services on which individuals and their families depend to meet basic needs.

“My local child and family services is also at that breaking point. They have done everything to save money and raise money. The complexity of cases the agency is grappling with continues to mount while this government refuses to expand beds and treatment at Syl Apps, Youthdale, and Robert Smart. Many young people experiencing these complex issues are not making it into foster homes, but rather are being housed in hotel rooms. This is unconscionable,” Brady said.

Brady reminded the PC Government how it is supposed to help in times of need and the time is now to help some of Ontario’s most vulnerable.

Brady thanks her constituents for fueling her Queen’s Park questions and statements by providing her with a steady stream of feedback about their lives and struggles under the current PC government leadership. She asks that everyone feel free to contact her so she can continue to urge this PC government to keep its original promises to maintain a strong economy, prosperity, and good balance sheets while helping the vulnerable in our communities.
