DUNNVILLE – True Experience is adding nine more affordable housing units in Dunnville that will support people with mental health and addiction challenges.

The Ontario government provided more than $1.7 million through the Social Services Relief Fund to create the units. Each home has three private bedrooms and a shared living room, kitchen and bathroom.

“This is the type of housing I can get behind,” said Bobbi Ann Brady, Haldimand-Norfolk MPP. “These are the types of outside-the-box creative solutions we need to help vulnerable people in our communities.”

Associate Minister Michael Parsa was on hand for the announcement on Monday morning, along with representatives of True Experience Support Housing and Community Work Program as well as Haldimand-Norfolk Housing Corporation.

“True Experience Supporting Housing and Community Work Program is extremely grateful to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and the Corporation of Norfolk County for the opportunity to be a recipient of the Social Services Relief Fund,” said Rhonda Geyer, executive director True Experience. “Through the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative, we are able to provide nine individuals living with mental illness or at risk of homelessness, a safe, inclusive and supported co-living residence to call home.”

“The Social Services Relief funding has facilitated an impactful cross-organizational community partnership,” said Matt Bowen, CEO Haldimand-Norfolk Housing Corporation. “These much-needed funds enable us to be responsive, adding affordable, supportive housing here in Haldimand County. We are all thrilled to have had this opportunity and look forward to working with the province to bring more innovate and creative solutions to the community.”

MPP Brady said she hopes these types of productive partnerships can be built on in Haldimand-Norfolk and across the province.
