Brady praises CAP funding, questions missing RMP boost

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Nov. 24, 2023

SIMCOE – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP had kudos for the provincial and federal governments new CAP agriculture funding to expand production capacity and boost energy efficiency in the agriculture and food sector but questioned when the increase in RMP funding was coming.

Announced Monday, the Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership (CAP) through the Agri-Tech Innovation Initiative, funding will be provided to eligible farm and food processing businesses to help them invest in innovative technology, equipment or processes that will expand production capacity or enhance efficiency.

Brady believes this was the funding alluded to when she questioned the provincial agriculture minister about the increase in Risk Management Plan on Nov. 15. That question stemmed from the BFO’s recent visit to the Ontario Legislature and a request for an increase during Brady’s meeting with beef matters.

“This increase in CAP funding is great and should help the farmers in Haldimand-Norfolk in some situations, but an RMP increase would have a wider spread impact and it’s what farm groups have said they wanted,” Brady said.
